EMMA AND SAM TAKE
PLAYER PLUS TITLES

Congratulations to Emma Devine and Sam Hutt, winners of the 2008 Player Plus titles on May bank holiday weekend. Emma came through the event without dropping a set whilst Sam dropped just one set on his way to the title (to Josh Page in the semi-final).
The event was well supported by many of the leading coaches in Britain and the £1000 first prize for winning coach was won by Ellinore Lightbody and Tom Greenland. We made the decision this year not to pay european federations to enter their players in the tournament, preferring to put the £3000 this cost us each year into prizemoney for the coaches. The federations subsequently took the decision not to enter their players without payment, though we did have an entry from Naomi Tran from the Sanchez Casal Academy who finished a very credible semi-finalist.

The event was completed on time thanks to the sterling efforts of the Tournament team - Roger Henry (referee), Anne Spalding (Assistant Referee), Sally Thorogood and Paul Braithwaite - despite some appaling weather, making it the third year ina row that the finals have had to move indoors.
Our sincere thanks to Richard Joyner and his team at the Nottingham Tennis Centre for their assistance in running the tournament.
