BTCA Invited to LTA Summit Meeting
This follows the release of the LTA National Competition Framework which outlines how mini tennis competition will be structured from 1st September 2007.
The most significant change brought in by the new framework is the restriction on juniors being allowed to ‘play up’ an age group. All players will now be expected to play in their own age group and ‘playing up’ will only be allowed in exceptional cases. If a player does merit being an exceptional case, he/she will be issued with a passport to play in a higher age group, approved by the Head of Talent Management in conjunction with the relevant Talent Performance Manager for that area.
Please let us know what issues/concerns you have about the new structure so that we can raise these on your behalf at the meeting. Bill Mountford, Head of Coach Relations and Competitions at the LTA (pictured), has also agreed to personally answer any questions before or after the meeting and would like as much feedback as possible on the new structure.
We will be particularly interested to hear from the LTA at the meeting about the specific details of the promised support for coaches as mentioned in the framework leaflet and how they plan to actively support coaches to assist them in making competition a viable and profitable part of their business.
Having not been consulted at all on the blueprint, it is encouraging that the LTA have now invited the BTCA to be part of the process of implementing the blueprint and we applaud their decision to do so.
Send your issues/comments/concerns to us by July 5th so that we can represent member’s views at the summit meeting. We will report back on the meeting in due course.
